In the heart of Telemark's forests, within a 5-minute drive of Bø Sommarland lies Grend. A small village of micro-houses. In a short time, the forest area has been transformed into a modern hospitality-concept for both tourists and students.

- People are amazed when they hear about the concept. It's completely unique and we think this is just the start. Balder Bragø welcomes us to Bø. A small village with micro-houses designed by Snøhetta and Omgi. Balder hosts Grend and ensures that guests are satisfied with their stay at all times.

Grend has a unique business model. In the summer, the units are rented out to tourists, while students live here the rest of the year.

The story of Grend does not begin with architects and construction processes, but with a dream. The dream of creating a place where people could find an inner peace, away from the chaotic daily life. Balder says that the vision resonates with both students and tourists.

- Those who live here are very excited about how close they get to nature. You live practically in the middle of the forest, although you have access to everything you need. Bragdo tells us.

Although the micro-houses are designed and manufactured by Omgi and Snøhetta, the units have a unique and distinctive look. Everything from colours and materials to solutions has been developed specifically for the brand. - Of course, it was very important to us that the accommodation was unique to Grend, says the landlord. - All the colours are aligned with Grend's profile, and solutions such as a combined bed and desk have been developed together with Omgi. We have greatly appreciated the opportunity for flexibility and tailoring.

Since its inception in the spring of 2023, Grend has proved to be a huge success. During the first summer season, the company had an 80% percent coverage rate, while all available units are leased to students for the current year.

'The venture has gone better than any of us had really dared to hope for, 'says a humble landlord. The numbers themselves tell a lot, but the response from everyone who asked us may have been an even greater motivation, he says. Grend is now in full swing the continuation of the adventure. Selslapet has raised funds from investors who want to participate in the adventure and are very much in the process of expanding to new locations.
